Not only does the Spa at the Shaw Center offer an array of non surgical procedures to improve your skin but there are a variety of at home pharmaceutical strength skin care products available as well.

We carry the Zo Skin Health line, among others, that offer skincare programs and products that aid in daily skincare, anti-aging and acne prevention tailored for any skin type at any age.

Some of our patient’s favorite products from the Zo Skin Health line are the Oclipse Sunscreen + Primer SPF 30, Offects Exfoliating Polish, Ossential Radical Night Repair Plus, and the Olluminate Intense Eye Repair.

The Oclipse Sunscreen + Primer SPF 30 doubles as a sunscreen and primer to provide broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection as well as a base for smooth, even makeup application.  The Offects Exfoliating Polish creates a more even-toned complexion by exfoliating dead skin cells and increasing epidermal turnover.  In addition, there are Vitimins A, C, E, and C-Esters within the cream to help preserve skin barrier function.  The Ossential Radical Night Repair Plus addresses signs of aging by aiding new, healthy underlying skin cells to appear to the surface of the skin to create an enhanced, even tone, smoother texture and reestablishment of a euphoric appearance. The Olluminate Intense Eye Repair helps reduce puffiness and discoloration with the aid of antioxidants and anti-irritation ingredients while strengthening skin and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

If you have areas of fat that no matter what you do you can’t lose, CoolSculpting is a perfect solution for you!  CoolSculpting is a state of the art, non-surgical contouring procedure that freezes stubborn fat, resulting in it being naturally removed from your body.  There is no anesthetic, needles, surgery, special diet, supplements or downtime.  CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared, successful and safe.  The Shaw Center is the only Certified CoolSculpting Center in North Scottsdale and one of two centers backed by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Renowned Harvard University scientists, Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD, developed CoolSculpting.  The doctors realized that some children develop dimples while eating popsicles and this simple observation is how CoolSculpting was born.  The concept that cold has the ability to affect fat cells was the intuition behind Cryolipolysis, the evidence that CoolSculpting is built off of.

Options for CoolSculpting are on your hips, love handles, muffin tops, abdomen, inner thighs, upper arms, and back fat.  The procedure does not damage the skin or other tissues and only strictly affects fat cells.  Patients are able to return to their normal routine immediately after the procedure, including strenuous exercise.

The alternative to CoolSculpting is Liposuction, which requires anesthesia, incisions, and recovery time; however, a major upside to Liposuction is that it can target larger areas with more considerable results.  The benefit of CoolSculpting is that it does not require any surgery, needles or downtime.  The areas that are ideal for treatment with CoolSculpting are the waist, upper/lower abdomen and inner thighs and patients can anticipate a 20% reduction per treatment.

The Shaw Center offers a wide variety of cosmetic procedures but did you know that the spa offers an array of non-surgical medical spa services as well?  The Shaw Center spa offers a broad range of services such as Botox, Dysport, Juvederm, Belotero, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, Laser Hair Removal, Fotofacial, Facials & Peels, Microdermabrasion, Laser Resurfacing, Latisse, Lash & Brow tint and Hair Waxing.  The majority of the services have no downtime and minimal discomfort.
One of the most popular services at the Shaw Center spa are FotoFacials in order to treat uneven pigment, fine lines, and wrinkles caused by sun damage in addition to redness, scars and acne.  Technicians utilize Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments that were developed by Board-certified dermatologist, Patrick Bitter Jr. MD as a non-invasive method of photorejuvenation to enhance the appearance of the skin.  Dr. Shaw has been personally trained for FotoFacial (IPL) by Dr. Bitter.
During the actual treatment, light energy provides a series of gentle pulses to the skin non-invasively.  Each time the light flashes from the laser, the targeted area is rejuvenated without causing harm or damage to the surrounding skin.  Patients say that there is minimal discomfort throughout the procedure.

In order to begin the process of a Fotofacial, a consultation is arranged with Dr. Shaw or a staff technician.  Fotofacial treatment plans are customized to tailor your exact needs according to your skin type and skin areas that will respond best to IPL technology.  Fotofacials utilizing the IPL treatment are favored at the Shaw Center because there is no downtime, no scarring, discomfort is minimal, and treatments are easy.

There is a large misconception when it comes to how often one should have their breast implants replaced and we want to put the rumors to rest!

Rumors floating around the Internet claim it is necessary to have their breast implants replaced every ten years.  Breast implants have the ability to last much longer, even a lifetime, but there are exceptions of course.

If one or both of your breast implants rupture then it is necessary to have surgery as soon as possible in order to have them replaced.  Dr. Shaw’s personal experience with saline implant deflation is less than 1% over 20 years!
With silicone implants, you may not be able to detect a deflation by the appearance or feel but a radiological study, such as a mammogram, ultrasound or an MRI, will show the results.  The FDA recommends women who have silicone implants to have breast implant MRI scans periodically.
Though the natural aging process and pregnancy, which can include breast-feeding, childbirth, weight gain and loss, the elasticity of the skin changes resulting in drooping or sagging of the breast.  At this point women who are no longer content with their breast appearance may elect to have a breast lift with or without an implant exchange to improve the overall breast appearance. Other than rupture or personal reasons, there should be no reason to have your breast implants replaced based on any predetermined time interval. There, the myth has now been debunked!

Reverse your fine lines and wrinkles and attain total skin revitalization sans injections utilizing Laser 360.  The procedure uses 3 innovative technologies through a series of office visits in just 60 days in order to achieve full results.  The three different technologies are combined into a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs.  It is the ideal procedure for those that are not ready to commit to a full facelift but are no longer content with the results of topical creams and lotions.

The procedure will enhance your skins color, texture and tone.  AFT intense pulsed light is utilized in order to even out your skin color, reduce tiny broken blood vessels, and get rid of superficial pigmented and vascular marks.  Near-infrared lasers are used to firm up any loose skin throughout your eyes, nose and jaw in order to regain a more youthful, contoured appearance.  Pixel lasers aid in stimulating new collagen to grow in order to enhance skin’s texture and tone to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles.  This works by producing thousands of microscopic perforations but the skin remains undamaged around each perforation.  This permits the top layer of skin to heal from the edge of these miniscule holes rather quickly.

Each of the lasers is used through a hand piece that is placed on your skin.  The area being treated will progressively revitalize throughout the duration of your customized treatment plan.

Laser 360 is comfortable and does not require any downtime or recovery from the procedure.  It can be used on any skin type and you are able to return to normal activities immediately after each session.

In order to see if Laser 360 is right for you and to discuss a customized treatment plan, call The Shaw Center for a consultation at (480)767-1900.

One of the latest crazes in Hollywood is long, luscious lashes.  The majority of celebrities resort to eyelash extensions in order to achieve sky-high lashes.  Unless you have their bank account, they can add up fast due to their routinely maintenance.

Latisse is the perfect solution to achieve the long lashes you desire without having frequent upkeep.  The downside to eyelash extensions are that they continually fall out throughout your lash cycle resulting in having fills approximately every 2-3 weeks.  With Latisse, they are your own, real lashes so they will proceed to grow and will not fall out!

Latisse is the first and only product that has been approved by the FDA as a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes.  Hypotrichosis is just a fancy term meaning you have inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

Patients that use Latisse generally see gradual results with significant improvements by 2 months.  If you decide to no longer use Latisse, your eyelashes are expected to return to their prior length and appearance throughout a couple weeks or months.

Latisse is a great option for the hot summer months when you want to wear minimal make-up because you can put on a little mascara and be set!

Stop by The Shaw Center in order to receive more information about the lashes you have been lusting over and see if Latisse is right for you.

Let’s face it – This may be the last few days we have to enjoy cooler temperatures before those triple digits become a mainstay until October. In preparation for a long, hot summer, we invite you to check out our top tips for heat-proofing your summer beauty routine.
Prime your skin
Start your summer beauty routine with an oil-free primer and set your look with a powder. This will keep your make-up from wearing out long before you do!
Keep it light
Forget heavy matte or liquid foundation during the hot summer months. The heavier the make-up, the more likely it is to melt off when put to the test. And our summer temperatures are the toughest test! Try a light tinted SPF moisturizer or BB cream with SPF built in.
Pack oil blotters
Tuck a to-go pack of oil blotters in your bag so you can stop oil build up (which results in shiny skin) in its tracks when you’re out and about.
Step away from the hot tools
Give your hair a break from the heat-driven tools like the blow dryer and flat iron. Instead, give a natural wavy look a try. After washing your hair, run some argan oil through damp strands and then twist your hair into a bun (or trendy topknot). Once your hair dries, unfurl the bun, run your fingers through your hair and rock some natural waves fit for summer!
For mermaid waves, ditch the bun and put your hair in several mini braids (which are super-popular and will also keep your hair out of your face and off your neck). Once dried, gently undo the braids for sexy mermaid waves.

Stay soft… and cool
To help you cool down after the shower, keep your body lotion in the refrigerator. This exhilarating little treat is a sure way to beat the heat!

Staying well hydrated is particularly important during the summer when it’s hot, hot, hot. But not everyone loves downing glass after glass of water. Sneak more water into your day with these easy tips.

Add a splash
If you find plain water boring, add just a splash of 100 percent fruit juice like orange or apple. You can also freeze the juice into ice cube trays and add them to your water for a splash of flavor without adding too many calories or too much sugar.
Lighten up
Did you know that fresh produce can consist of up to 90 percent water and can count toward your daily intake of H2O? Ditch heavy cold weather foods like stews for lighter fare like salads and juicy fruits like peaches, watermelon and berries.
Try tea
Tea has so many health benefits and can also add toward your daily tally of water. But premade teas can get pretty pricy. To save on this water alternative, invest in a good sun tea jar and make your own with a few of your favorite teabags (experiment with various flavors until you find one you love). Adding herbs like mint and slices of fruit while it soaks in the sun is another great way to add flavor without adding calories.
Get sparkly
If you’re used to sipping soda, the switch to water can be a bit drab. So try carbonated water (or soda water) instead in any flavor you like. Do not confuse soda water with tonic water, however, which can be chock full of calories.

Keep it up
Drinking your eight full glasses of water a day can seem laborious at first, but keep at it. Down a glass first thing in the morning, and try drinking a full glass before each meal (in addition to while you are eating). You will find that drinking more water has all kinds of benefits on your health. Curbing dehydration can ease headaches, help you sleep better and make you feel fuller without as much snacking (which can lead to nearly effortless weight loss!).

Now that the three-digit weather is upon us, it’s more important than ever to crank up your skin care routine. With these tips our experts at The SHAW Center, you can beat the heat – and save your skin – this summer.
Work out early… or late
If you enjoy exercising outdoors, readjust your routine so that you are doing your outdoor workouts in the early morning before the sun hits its peak intensity of in the evening/night when the sun goes down. Even if you’re not out during peak hours, always apply sunscreen when exercising or spending time outdoors in the sun.

Stay in the shade
If you’re spending the day at the park or zoo with the kids, wear a hat, sunglasses, protective or long-sleeve clothing and try to stay out of the direct sun. Take lots of breaks in the heat of the day to hide out in the shade. If you can, bring an oversized umbrella, especially if you are headed to the lake, where ample shade may not be available. And don’t forget to reapply sunscreen on yourself and your kids often.
Apply sunscreen daily
Speaking of sunscreen, apply it every day – even if the only time you see the sun is the care ride from your home to your office. Even a small amount of sun exposure on a repeated basis can cause skin damage over time. If you find applying sunscreen to be a pain, look for a daily lotion with SPF built in or buy the spray on kind which takes just seconds to apply. And don’t forget the face and neck!

Regain smoother skin
Reverse the effects of skin damage (even from when you were a teen tanning in the sun!) by using a chemical exfoliator versus a buffer or granule cleanser.
Soothe a sunburn
If you do get burned, take an ibuprofen to calm inflammation as well as soothe redness and pain. Next take a cool shower, and then apply a thick moisturizing lotion. Ahhhhh.
Our team of skin care experts can help you achieve and maintain that healthy glow. Call us today to schedule a consultation to see how we can help!

With the weather heating up and summer just around the corner, you’ll want to ensure you’re putting your best skin forward this bikini season.

Forget embarrassing waxing sessions, DIY creams or shaving day after day. Now is the time to consider laser hair removal options for soft and smooth skin all season long sans the discomfort and inconvenience of temporary hair loss solutions.
At The SHAW Center, we offer many laser hair removal options to suit our patients’ needs:
LightSheer Duet Laser– The new LightSheer Duet entered the market in 2010 with breakthrough technology that eliminates the mess and minimizes the discomfort of traditional laser hair removal treatment. The treatment is also four times faster than older treatments – both underarms can be done in less than five minutes, the back in less than 30 minutes and both legs in less than 40 minutes!
This new treatment offers such little discomfort that most of our patients forgo topical anesthetic. As the hand piece passes over the skin, you’ll feel warmth and a slight pinch. Post-treatment, some patients experience mild redness on the area treated. On average, five treatments are generally required to get rid of all the hair in the area being treated.
Alma Laser Hair Removal – Considered the “pain-free, hair-free” treatment, the system’s SHR technology and IN Motion protocol heats the targeted area and then SHR’s pulses of energy slowly heat the hair follicles in the skin’s sub dermal layer. A cooling mechanism ensures the skin stays cool and comfy throughout the treatment.
The treatments are quick – 5 to 15 minutes for treatment on a small body part and 20 to 30 minutes for a larger area such as the average man’s back – and require no recovery downtime. Usually six treatments are required to ensure the best results.
Syneron elos System– This treatment serves as a complete aesthetic treatment solution, offering laser hair removal as well we IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments for skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, skin rejuvenation, acne treatments and facial vascular treatment. This system offers the most successful treatment on the broadest spectrum of hair colors, skin textures and skin tones with minimal downtime.
