COLLAGEN
For years, collagen has been used for:
Collagen requires no down time. Virtually all patients return to their regular activities promptly.
Collagen does require a test dose in order to avoid any allergic reactions. In our practice we recommend two test doses. This reduces the risk of an allergic reaction to less than 1%. We will also take a thorough history to determine any history of allergic reactions. This also minimizes the risk of any future allergic reactions.
Collagen can be used on all skin types.
Collagen comes in three different forms: Zyderm I, Zyderm II, and Zyplast. This enables us to correct different areas of the face at different layers of the skin.
Human forms of collagen known as Cosmoplast and Cosmoderm are now available for those allergic to bovine collagen, and they do not require a test dose. They also seem to last slightly longer than bovine collagen.
The duration and effect of collagen is dependent on the amount used, but it generally lasts between four to six months.
